The House Committee on Agriculture and Food chaired by Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga (1st District, Quezon) on Monday held a briefing on the implementation of Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law. Adversely affected were local farmers who called for a review of the law, saying the removal of the quota on rice importation has led to the prices of palay spiraling downwards to as low as P7 per kilo which was way below its cost of production. Among the resource persons present were Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles, Agriculture Undersecretary Ariel Cayanan, DA Regional Director Roy Abaya and representatives of the National Food Authority, PhilRice, National Economic and Development Authority, Action for Economic Reforms, United Broilers Raisers Association, National Irrigation Administration, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, Samahang Industriya ng Magsasaka (SINAG), National Confederation of Irrigators Association and farmers from Nueva Ecija. /Caption by Ma.
