The budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for 2020 took center stage on Monday during the hearing of the House Committee on Appropriations chaired by Rep. Isidro Ungab (3rd District, Davao City). Presided by the committee’s vice chairpersons, the panel discussed the P236.22-billion budget of the DILG as proposed in the 2020 National Expenditure Program (NEP). DILG Secretary Eduardo Año reported that the 2020 NEP grants the agency a budget of P236.22 billion. This is three percent or P7.51 billion higher than the agency’s budget of P228.71 billion in 2019 as approved in the General Appropriations Act (GAA). Of the total budget, the lion’s share of 86 percent or over P204.162 billion shall be allocated to Personnel Services. About 12 percent or P28.34 billion shall go to Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), and two percent or P3.72 billion shall fund Capital Outlay (CO). Other resource speakers at the meeting were Philippine National Police Oscar Albayalde and Bureau of Fire Protection Director Leonard Bañaga.
